SESSION FOUNDATION

Head coaching requires more than basketball knowledge.

Session 1 converts the presentation into an action plan you can begin now.

The program’s mission is to create awareness of the skills, proficiencies, and minimum standards needed to become a head coach. Session 1 organizes that responsibility into four areas.

01

Grow Your Basketball Knowledge

Study film, watch play away from the ball, learn terminology, attend practices and clinics, scout games, and become a lifelong learner.

02

Serve the Entire Program

Support scouting, lead film breakdown, work with feeder programs, understand technology and rules, and become excellent in your present role.

03

Lead People and Culture

Build relationships, communicate professionally, set standards, work with parents, develop assistants, and connect with the community.

04

Manage the Responsibilities

Understand liability, fundraising, equipment, calendars, evaluations, healthy habits, and the year-round work of running a program.

The Session 1 challenge

No one can be more invested than you. No one can work harder than you. Be grateful, humble, hungry, and willing to do every job.
